Our second Burns Supper was held on Saturday 21st January in the church hall and was a great success! Around fifty people attended the event and enjoyed a delicious three course meal of cock-a-leekie soup, haggis neeps & tatties and trifle followed by tea, coffee and shortbread.
The haggis, ably carried in by Derina Chisholm, was piped in by John McCallum and addressed by Ronnie McLauchlan. Bill Strachan was MC for the evening and interspersed the introduction of the various speakers with humourous anecdotes. The Selkirk Grace was delivered by Rev Moira Herkes. David Thomson proposed the Immortal Memory and he spoke of how the works of Burns had influenced his life. A very humourous Toast to the Lassies was delivered by Ken Macdonald.
The recently reformed St Munda's Choir performed three of the poet's much loved songs and received a great ovation from the guests. The reply to the lassies toast was delivered by the Rev Ann Winning. Ann's speech was a match for Ken's and reflected her wide knowledge of Burns's works and was thoroughly enjoyed by the company! Bill related the tale of Willie Wastle, a poem in Scots.
Music was provided by Michelle McPhee, Ken Macdonald and David Thomson.
Graham Robertson gave a well deserved vote of thanks to everyone who helped make the evening the success it was.
Once again the night was voted a great success and £550 was raised for Church funds.
